More information

The SY Julie Marie (ex. Alithia) was designed by Bill Trip and Andrew Winch to be a Sloop rigged sailing yacht that marries offshore safety, a modern life style and an awesome sailing performance. The design brief for this 40 m (130 ft) Abeking and Rasmussen build cruising and racing machine called for a family boat with teachers, a classroom, sleek beauty, lithe sailing qualities and global reach. An unusual design brief as the yacht was to be the home for the Greek/German couple and their five children for a period of 2 – 3 years taking them on an epic sailing voyage around the world.

The SY Julie Marie has a MTU-6R 183 TE 93 main engine, rated at 441 kW (591 hp) at 2300 rpm that drives a Servogear propulsion system with controllable pitch propeller. Dellner Brakes AB supplied a pressure applied SKD 65 disc brake acting on a splitted ø370 mm (14.6 in) disc. The primary function of the brake is to hold the propeller, of which the pitch is positioned to generate a minimum of water resistance, when the yacht is sailing.
